Every Friday night, teams from Citylife Church provide soup, fresh food, hot drinks and clothing to the homeless and the vulnerable living on the streets of Southampton. There are currently four teams who go out in rotation.
Each Friday evening, a team is responsible for collecting the food that remains unsold from Pret A Manger so it can be given to those in need, rather than being wasted. The food is then distributed from 8.00 - 11.30pm.
It is a walking Soup Run and teams walk the city streets and car parks offering hot drinks and food to anyone who needs it. Occasionally, hats, gloves, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags are also distributed.
The Soup Run also offers an opportunity to befriend, listen to, and pray for, those we meet. It gives our volunteers an opportunity to express God’s love in practical ways to those struggling with health issues, addictions or loneliness. It is a valuable experience and every volunteer makes a real difference to people's lives.
