City Life Church, Southampton

Environment Policy

City Life Church takes environmental responsibility seriously. We are called to be good stewards. Our activities are divided into three sections; to mitigate their environmental impacts in the most practicable ways.

1 Church Administration - Reducing impacts from the church office.
1.1 Printing

  • Printing should be minimized, with only essential documents ending up on paper.
  • Colour printing should only be done where necessary.
  • Recycled or sustainably produced paper will be sourced.
  • Scrap paper should be used for printing where possible.

1.2 Recycling
  • Care should be taken to ensure that waste is recycled wherever possible.
  • City Life will provide facilities to make this as convenient as possible.

1.3 Water
  • Be wise about water use – only take what is required.

1.4 Energy
  • As far as possible all computers, monitors, photocopiers, lights, electrical items should be turned off when not being used.
  • Carbon emissions from office energy usage are offset through Climate Care.

1.5 Travel
  • Car use should be minimized and vehicles shared where possible.
  • Responsible choices should be made regarding travel.
  • Carbon emissions from travel are offset through Climate Care.

2 Overseas Missions – Offset impacts of overseas travel.
Our overseas missions have significant practical and spiritual benefits for church members, and those who welcome us in Thailand, Uganda, India, South Africa, and many other countries. These mission trips will continue, and the carbon emissions from travel will be offset through Climate Care.

3 Supporting the Church - Reduce individual impacts on the environment.
A series of booklets looking to generate conversation on the Christian perspective towards issues of current global/national interest are being provided for discussion. We will continue to seek ways to promote environmental responsibility in the church.

Note: Climate Care invest the money received from carbon offsetting into energy efficiency and renewable energy projects across the world. These projects have ancillary benefits to local communities: poverty alleviation, health benefits and increased biodiversity.
