PURE

PURE is a group set up by Dan and a few others back in 2001 to campaign and pray into Justice issues. The challenge of Micah 6:8 – “What is it the Lord requires of you? To Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly before God.” - was felt and the response was PURE being set up to try to make a difference. It often feels very hard as one person to make a lasting difference in a world where there is so much injustice and pain, but together we can have a bigger impact – and with God on our side we can shift things in heavenly places and see the impossible happen.

PURE works within the city, working with groups like the Fairtrade City Group, Oxfam, IANSA, Traidcraft and others. PURE organises events to raise awareness and campaign on such issues, however, since helping the city of Southampton achieve Fairtrade status in March 2004 and the University of Southampton achieve Fairtrade status in October 2006, PURE has not run as a society at the University and is therefore less active than previously, and only runs occasional events and campaigns.

The Bible tells us that the foundations of God’s throne are righteousness and justice. That where righteousness rains down, salvation will spring up. This is one of the aims of PURE – that as we sow righteousness and justice, we can change the very environment around us, bringing in God’s Kingdom values as we go.

Our ethos and values reflect this, encouraging those who are actively involved in PURE to not only speak good news, but to be good news to others – to not just campaign for purity in our choices and ethics, but to be PURE, to live lifestyles that are beyond reproach and challenge others.
