Student Worker Profile - Dan Pooley
Dan came to Southampton in 1996 to study for a Chemistry masters and joined the church early on.
Following his Masters (including a 6 month placement away on the Wirral – nr Liverpool) he returned to Southampton to do a year out with the church in 2000.
After getting married in Sept 2001 he was appointed as the Student Worker.
Dan regularly speaks and leads meetings at church, he helps with the University CU missions week whenever possible and is a regular speaker at the CU evangelist events as well as at Solent University CU events.
Dan has a passion to see students reach their potential in God and to see them equipped and encouraged to use their gifts here and now, rather than waiting until after University when we might feel ready. At the beginning of his year out with the church in 2000, he was asked ‘what is the one thing he wanted to do during the year?’ His response ‘to see the world changed, and to do it through students’ – it is still the same today. To influence and shape those from around the world today as students who will be tomorrow’s movers and shakers. This may mean impacting a few students himself, or maybe equipping a students to see a greater number impacted – ideally both!
Dan is married to Mel who is currently the manager of the Paperchase store in West Quay. They live together on the Flowers Estate near Cantell School, the University and the Glen Eyre Road Halls which is handy for Dan and often means a house full of students! He has a passion for justice and for India (where he takes teams to work with ASHA, a project working in the slums of New Delhi). He loves cooking (so invite yourself over – or come to Gastronomous) and is a coffee fanatic.
