Amber Chaplains

Donate today to help us offer hope, and promote safety, health and wellbeing, for women selling sex on the streets in Southampton.

We are a part-time chaplaincy and outreach service offering non-judgemental care, hope, and practical support for women involved in selling sex on the streets of Southampton.

The women we walk alongside are some of the most marginalised and vulnerable in our city, and face complex challenges, including violence, exploitation, addiction, unstable housing, food poverty, and poor physical and mental health.  We believe these women are deeply loved and valued by God and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. This has been our motivation and driving force since the project began 30 years ago.

Our dedicated team of volunteers led by our staff chaplain provides twice-weekly evening outreach, offering wellbeing gift bags, safety items and information, confidential listening, signposting and referral to other agencies, and the opportunity for prayer. Our outreach van provides a confidential, safe space where women can chat to a chaplain, receive a hot drink and a snack. Our staff chaplain offers daytime support on a Tuesday and Wednesday, including a chat over coffee, practical and emotional support and will accompany women to appointments.  We celebrate every small step and are continually inspired by the resilience of the women we meet.

We work in collaboration with other professionals in the city to offer a multi-disciplinary approach.  This includes Two Saints Homeless Services, Solent Sexual Health, CGL (Change Grow Live) substance misuse team,  Homeless Health Care, housing providers, voluntary organisations, and the local police.

'On-street chaplains engage with women selling sex on the streets; these are some of the most vulnerable women in our city. Their wonderful team of staff and volunteers consistently provide amazing support.' - Police Operation Hem Lead

Volunteer

Amber couldn’t run without our community of dedicated volunteers who are passionate  about what we do and give their time to the women that we meet during outreach sessions. Our volunteer chaplains (female) are Christians from local churches and our volunteer drivers (men and women) provide support to the chaplaincy team by driving the outreach van.

Interested in being a volunteer? If you are passionate about what we do and interested in giving your time voluntarily, please get in touch.
